360dialog Alternative: When You Don't Need the Official API

This search term hides an unusual decision. Whapi, WasenderAPI, UltraMsg and the rest of the unofficial category compete with each other on price and features, but they are all the same kind of thing. 360dialog is not. It is a Meta Business Solution Provider, reselling official Cloud API access with no markup on Meta's own fees. Looking for a 360dialog alternative is rarely about switching BSPs. It is almost always about wondering whether you need a BSP at all.

That is a bigger decision than a pricing comparison, so let's treat it as one.

What 360dialog actually charges

Three tiers: Regular at €49 a month (roughly $53), Premium at €99 (roughly $107) with faster support and credit line access, and High Throughput at €249 (roughly $270) for up to 1,000 messages per second against the standard 80. There is also a Marketplace option at €99 per number per month that matches you with a partner tool, with zero lock-in on the number itself.

360dialog's own pricing page is explicit that this is a platform fee with no markup on Meta's messaging fees, and third-party analysis confirms they pass Meta's rates through close to at cost, sometimes with a small flat per-message addition depending on the plan. Either way, the platform fee is rarely the dominant cost. Meta's own per-message rates are, and they scale with volume regardless of which BSP you use.

Run a realistic case: a business sending 6,000 messages a month blending marketing and utility templates across a few countries lands around $55 in the platform fee and roughly $75 to $160 in Meta's fees depending on country mix, for a total in the $130 to $215 range. At 20,000 messages a month, Meta's fees alone typically clear $500, dwarfing the platform fee entirely.

The point worth sitting with: switching BSPs does not touch this number. Twilio, Gupshup, Wati, or staying on 360dialog, Meta charges the same per-message rate to every one of them. The only thing a BSP controls is its own markup and the software wrapped around the API. If your 360dialog bill feels too high, check what proportion is the €49 platform fee versus Meta's message fees before assuming a different BSP fixes anything.

The question underneath the search term

If your actual complaint is the platform fee or a markup, the fix is a different BSP, and it is a small decision. If your actual complaint is Meta's message fees, templates, verification, or the constraints of the official platform generally, the fix is leaving the official category entirely, and it is a large decision with real trade-offs. Work out which one you are asking before reading further, because the rest of this article is about the second question.

What you would be giving up

This is the part that gets skipped in most "alternative" articles, and it matters more here than anywhere else in this series, because 360dialog customers chose the official platform for reasons that unofficial APIs cannot replace at any price.

The verified badge and Official Business Account status. Visual trust markers that exist only on Meta's platform.

Click-to-WhatsApp ad integration. If any part of your acquisition funnel runs through Meta ads that open a WhatsApp conversation, that integration requires the official API. There is no workaround.

Catalogs and in-chat payments. Native commerce features unavailable outside the official platform.

A contractual relationship with Meta. 360dialog is a vetted partner operating within Meta's policies. That is a real compliance posture your legal and procurement teams can document, audit and rely on. An unofficial session-based connection has none of this: automating a standard account breaches WhatsApp's terms of service, and the enforcement mechanism is account restriction with no appeal to a partner relationship.

Predictable throughput at scale. Regular gives you 80 messages a second, High Throughput up to 1,000. Session-based providers pace deliberately to avoid detection, which is the opposite design goal.

Audit trail and regulatory documentation. If you operate in banking, healthcare, insurance, or anywhere a compliance team will ask for evidence, the official platform is usually not optional.

If any of these are load-bearing for your business, stop here. Changing BSPs, not categories, is your actual answer, and the pricing breakdown covers what to expect from Twilio, Gupshup and Wati as points of comparison.

When the unofficial category is a legitimate answer

There is a real population of 360dialog customers for whom the official platform is genuine overkill, and it is worth being specific about who that is.

Internal tooling wearing an external hat. Server alerts, inventory notifications, staff approvals. There is no customer to protect, no template that fits an internal message, and no reason to pay Meta's per-message rate to tell your own warehouse team that stock ran low.

A support number that never runs marketing. If every message is a reply inside an existing conversation, you are already paying close to nothing in Meta fees today, but you are also paying the platform fee for compliance machinery your traffic barely uses. That said, note that Meta's free service-message window closes on 1 October 2026, at which point in-window replies become billed too, which changes this calculation somewhat.

Prototypes and low-stakes internal experiments. Provisioning a WABA, completing verification and building templates for a two-week pilot is disproportionate.

Agencies managing numbers that will never need a badge. Client operations, internal reporting numbers, and small businesses that do not run WhatsApp ads.

A genuinely tight budget where flat pricing changes what is buildable. $5 to $35 a month for one to ten numbers against $53 to $270 in platform fees before a single message ships.

The trade-off, stated plainly

Session-based APIs connect through WhatsApp's multi-device protocol as a linked companion device, the same mechanism WhatsApp Web uses. No Meta approval, no business verification, no templates, no 24-hour window, flat pricing regardless of volume.

The cost is that this breaches WhatsApp's terms of service, full stop, regardless of which vendor you use, us included. Enforcement is account restriction, and risk correlates with sending behaviour far more than with the provider. Opted-in, conversational, inbound-led traffic sits in a genuinely low-risk band. Cold outreach at volume does not, on any platform, and no vendor can sell you immunity from this. The comparison between the two categories goes deeper on where each one wins.

The gap is largest exactly where the official platform's value is also largest: high volume, marketing-heavy, customer-facing operations. For the internal and conversational segment above, the gap is real money for capability that segment was never using.

The alternatives, if you have decided

WaHttp, ours, so weigh accordingly. $5 to $35 a month for one to ten numbers, unlimited messages, plain REST with no SDK required, server-side pacing, an MCP endpoint for AI agents, signed webhooks. We are newer than 360dialog and carry none of its compliance documentation, which is a fair thing to hold against us if that documentation is what you need.

WasenderAPI, similarly priced at $6 to $45 for one to ten sessions, with official SDKs for Node, Python and Laravel.

Whapi.Cloud, more expensive at $35 per channel, but the strongest option if you need Groups, Communities or Channels alongside direct messaging.

A different BSP, if the real complaint was 360dialog's fee or support rather than the official platform itself. Twilio charges no platform fee with a small per-message markup. Gupshup runs cheaper in Indian and Southeast Asian markets. Wati bundles a team inbox. All pass Meta's message fees through regardless.

A hybrid is usually the right answer

Most businesses evaluating this should end up running both rather than picking one. Customer-facing marketing, anything using click-to-WhatsApp ads, and regulated communications stay on 360dialog or a comparable BSP, where the compliance and reach justify the cost. Internal alerts, staff notifications, prototypes and low-stakes automation move to a flat-rate session API, where per-message billing was never buying you anything.

Keep both integrations on plain REST calls and standard webhook handling rather than deep vendor SDKs. That is what makes it cheap to run this hybrid and cheap to change either half of it later without a rewrite.

Common Questions

How much does 360dialog cost? €49 a month for the Regular plan, €99 for Premium, €249 for High Throughput, plus Meta's per-message fees on top, which typically dominate the bill at any meaningful volume. There is no markup on Meta's own rates.

Is there a cheaper 360dialog alternative? For staying on the official platform, Twilio has no base fee and a small per-message markup, which can beat 360dialog below roughly 10,000 messages a month; 360dialog's flat fee wins above that. For leaving the official platform entirely, flat-rate session-based APIs run $5 to $45 a month regardless of volume, at the cost of Meta compliance.

Can I switch from 360dialog to an unofficial API without losing my number? Yes, your number stays yours either way. Moving to a session-based provider means linking the same number as a companion device via QR code rather than through a WABA.

Will I lose the verified badge if I switch? Yes, and permanently while on that provider. The verified badge, catalogs, in-chat payments and click-to-WhatsApp ads exist only on Meta's official platform.

Is an unofficial WhatsApp API illegal? No, but it breaches WhatsApp's terms of service, which is a contractual matter rather than a legal one. The consequence is account restriction rather than legal action, and it applies to every unofficial provider equally.

Should I switch if I'm running WhatsApp ads or need compliance documentation? No. Neither is available outside Meta's official platform at any price, and no unofficial provider, including us, can substitute for them.

What's the real reason to consider leaving 360dialog? Almost always that your traffic is conversational, internal or low-stakes enough that you were paying for compliance machinery you rarely used. If your traffic is customer-facing marketing at volume, the fix for a high bill is a lower-markup BSP, not leaving the official category.
